The Competition “Rechbergrennen (Austria)” counting for the FIA European Hill Climb Championship & the FIA Historic Hill Climb Championship have been cancelled by the AMF (Austrian ASN).
Due to the COVID-19 the round 1 of of the European Hill Climb Championship 2021 is cancelled.
Due to the COVID-19 the round 2 of of the European Hill Climb Championship 2021 is cancelled.
During the first practice on Saturday, Jiri Los (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9) had a fatal accident in the hill climb race Lanskroun in the Czech Republic, which was part of the Maverick Rescue Euro Cup and the Czech Championship.
In recent years, the Czech was a regular starter in the European Hill Climb Championship, where he celebrated numerous successes. First in Group N with a Subaru Impreza WRX STI, later with a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9, and finally in Group E2-SH, where he was able to fight among other competitors with his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9. This years race at Landskroun was the season start for him…
Our sympathy goes to his family, his numerous friends and of course to his team.
FIA press release (29.05.2020):
In light of the current COVID-19 crisis and due to its direct consequences, the 2020 editions of the FIA European Hill Climb Championship and the FIA International Hill Climb Cup have been cancelled.
The original European Championship calendar included 12 events in as many countries from mid-April to mid-September. Nine of the 12 rounds were already officially cancelled on the eve of the Hill Climb Commission meeting on 26 May, with no intention or possibility for the affected organisers to postpone their event to a later date. As for the International Hill Climb Cup, three of its five events had already been cancelled.
In the opinion of the members of the Commission, the balance of events that could (perhaps, without any absolute guarantee yet) still be contested was insufficient to justify the maintenance and merit of the Championship and Cup status.
President of the FIA Hill Climb Commission, Imad Lahoud said: ”This is a very difficult decision, but a reasonable one in the particular context of our discipline and it will allow everyone to postpone all their efforts towards 2021. The next season of hill climbs will bring its share of novelties and we are looking forward to it, especially for the full introduction of the Performance Factor for the closed cars competing in Category 1 in the Championship, in the Cup and at the FIA Hill Climb Masters.”
Due to COVID-19 3 other races won't take place as planned:
- Coppa Paolina Teodori (postponed) - www.gsacascoli.org
- Dobsinky Kopec (postponed) - www.leto.dobsinskykopec.com
- St-Ursanne - Les Rangiers (cancelled) - www.rangiers.ch
Please find all the information needed on the homepage of the organisers.
The race in the Czech Republic, Ecce Homo Sternberk, is posponed due to COVID-19. The new date is not fixed yet.
